My New Cake: Cake Frites! Ice Cream Cake Steak.

/ Thursday, May 10, 2012

I'm interrupting my brief hiatus to share my ice cream cake steak—or Cake Frites!—with you. It's in the new June issue of our magazine. The recipe just popped up on the website today. Check it out here.

The recipe is easy. Like, easy easy. The "steak" is a slice of chocolate ice cream, wrapped in plastic wrap and molded with your hands. The fries are pound cake sliced with a crinkle cutter and toasted with butter and sugar. Here's a peak at the real thing.

I've been waiting to show you, so I'd love to share one more thing. Did you know the cake how-to hands are mine? Truth. It takes me back to my teaching days: Develop an idea, then walk someone through exactly how to master it, bit-by-bit. It's one of the main reason why I love my job! (Bonus for me: I'm much better about moisturizing now, especially after seeing the first shots of my parched dishpan-hands a year ago.) Anyway. Thank you for indulging me for a few minutes. I hope you enjoy the cake. Let me know what you guys think!
