DIY Birthday Cake Tea Candles—Perfect For A Quickie Celebration!

/ Thursday, June 20, 2013

Hi there, friends! You know what's interesting? I noticed that most of my favorite bloggers all have June birthdays, like Leah Bergman of Freutcake, Naomi Davis of Rockstar Dairies, brilliant Jordana Rothman and Sarah Copeland of Real Simple (and Edible Living).
My birthday's coming up next week. I'm not an astrology whizz but it doesn't seem like a coincidence that the ladies I click with and admire the most all happen to share a birth month with me. Plus, Cancers are known to be domestically-focused and we all write about food/home-life in one form or another. What do you think!?

In honor of this discovery, I'd love to share a quick little DIY with you: Birthday Cake Tea Candles! The idea came to me the other day and I've been dying to try it out. You just warm the tea lights until they're sticky, then sprinkle with—well—sprinkles! These candles would be such a cute addition to a celebration, don't you think? I chose to use Wilton's Rainbow Nonpareils but you could use any color combo you'd like (perfect if you have a specific color scheme for your party in mind). The project takes 5 minutes, start to finish. Here's how you do it...
DIY BIRTHDAY CAKE TEA CANDLES

MAKES: 6 candles

6 white tea lights
1 tablespoon nonpareils

1. Preheat the oven to 350˚. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Arrange the tea lights on the prepared baking sheet and bake 3 minutes or until slightly melted.
3. Immediately sprinkle the candles with nonpareils. Let sit 5 minutes, then shake any excess nonpareils off onto the baking sheet. (Roll up the parchment for easy clean up.)

Two (quick) questions for you before you pop off: 1. Do any of you have June birthday's too? Fill a girl in! 2. Do you have any other suggestions for easy birthday DIY projects? I'd love try a few over the weekend—let me know! xox Erin
